Arlington County Jail

Telephones

Interview with ChiChi

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
ChiChi: Yes, but there was always a line

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people?
ChiChi: The cost were very high, from what my family told me they were charged around 3.99 per minute.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
ChiChi: No, one could have money put on there "comm" card which allowed us to make calls and it deducted it from an account that was set up throught the institution.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
ChiChi: I would think so, but we never knew it. I would think they would not listen in on our phone calls.
